Rekha is Bollywood's style diva. Rekha, who started her career as a child artist in 1966 with a Telugu film Rangula Ratnam, went on to become an idol for even the present lot of the industry. Vidya Balan and other ace actors draw an inspiration from this diva for her styling. Rekha has acted in over 180 films in a career spanning over 40 years. Throughout her career, she has often played strong female characters and, apart from mainstream cinema, appeared in arthouse films, known in India as parallel cinema.

Rekha won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981). Rekha has been a witness to many changes and hardships in her life. Even in her filmy career, she has seen quite a many ups and downs, which led her to act in films like Bachke Rehna Re Baba which garnered negative reviews against the actor. However, she did not give up. Instead, she reinvented herself numerous times and has been credited for her ability to sustain her status.In 2010, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
