From donning a bridal mantle to flaunting her glowing skin and lustrous hair in beauty product ads, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has proved not once, but time and again, that she is not a facile woman. The first Indian maiden to be crowned with the title of Miss World in 1994, Ash was destined to be the doyenne. While the start of her career saw her basking in the glory of stardom, later, she had to face unwarranted criticism for the weight she had put on post her pregnancy. While the news of Kareena Kapoor replacing her in Heroine did the rounds, augmented with rumors, the situation was forsaken for the audience to predict. Madhur Bhandarkar then came out in the open about the replacement, citing Aishwarya’s pregnancy as the reason. Her weight issues suddenly became the talk-of-the town, just like her bikini-clad, perfectly shaped body had, during Dhoom 2. Amidst all the condemnations, she silenced her detractors by losing her post-pregnancy fat to recreate an imaginary trim version 2.0. She repudiated the world of glamour, and chose motherhood over her Bollywood career, only to prove with a great comeback, that her reign has not met a dead end. She set an example and broke the stereotype for all those women who thought that their fine fettle would be reduced to corpulence. Her role in Devdas, which released back in 2002, proved to be her first step towards international recognition, and since then, she has been a regular attendee at the Cannes Film Festival.

Like every other woman, Ash had also put on kilos post pregnancy, and was unfairly targeted and made the brunt of media cynosure, without even being given the benefit of time to recover her normal self. What distinguishes her from the rest is that she didn’t shy away from the media or the public, and even attended the Cannes Film festival while she was still fat. She didn’t let her inhibitions crawl over stardom, and gave away many films to stay beside her daughter, to see her grow up. In the years Aaradhya Bachchan was toddling her way towards growing up, Aishwarya was also planning her comeback. She took out time for her fitness worries and soon transformed herself completely, leaving everyone gasping at how terrific she looked all over again.

Aishwarya went through rigorous gym sessions while she was preparing for her role in Dhoom 2. All the hard work paid off, and she looked alluring, like a complete seductress. Her tough routines were physically draining and a strict diet, added to it. After her pregnancy though, Aishwarya chose to do it differently, and instead of rigorous gymming, she opted for yoga. She was never a regular at the gym in any case, and yoga to get back into shape. Yoga not only helped her with a fit body, but also with limb flexibility and a soothed mind. She wanted to be a perfect mother and stayed home to be beside Aaradhya, and practiced yoga at home. Along with yoga, she also followed a strict diet and kept herself away from most gastronomic temptations, never allowing herself to give in to weak moments and indulge, or go on binges, like many women do when they succumb to crazy food cravings, during pregnancy and post delivery. The process was excruciatingly slow, but the results were great and there for all to behold. Here she stands before you looking as young as she looked back then, eagerly waiting to re-enter the once traversed paths of Bollywood, with her upcoming film Jazbaa.
