TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA Movie

Starring : Prabhudheva, Sonu Sood and Tamannaah Bhatia

Actor Sonu Sood's debut as a producer with TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA is a simple harmless fun.

At times when Bollywood spooky affairs turn unintentionally spoofy, this ghost comedy by award winning director from south - Vijay (DEVIA THIRUMAGAL, THALAIVAA), starring Prabhudeva, Tamannah Bhatia and Sonu Sood comes with a single point agenda to tickle our funny bones and does the needful and of course Prabhudeva's 'paisa vasool' dance moves are there as a bonus.

It's not everyone's cup of tea to seriously turn ghost into laughter. Satish Kaushik's GANG OF GHOSTS (2014) tried to be funny but failed.

Vijay's TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA possess fair bit of spooky sense of snarky fun and happily weds itself with the rom com feel though its illogical and lacks any wisdom or cinematic layers or depth for that matter to provide fodders for the thinking, serious and concern audience.

The trilingual in Hindi, Tamil (DEVI) and Telugu (ABHINETRI) also has Prabhudeva as its producer in the Tamil version. A. L. Vijay and Paul Aaron pen this story of a middle aged Krishna (Prabhudheva) from a village in Coimbatore who lives in Mumbai and desires to marry a modern wife.

Whenever he sees a stylish urban chick, he flaunts his bio data which without any shame records his rejections with recent updates (its 34 till now).

Unavoidable circumstances forced Krishna to marry Devi (Tamannaah), Devi comes to Mumbai with Krishna but gets snubbed and ignored. One day during a Bollywood event sponsored by Krishna's company, an all together different side of Devi shocks Krishna. The shy simple village belly turns ultra modern and dances like a professional catching the eye of superstar Raj Khanna (Sonu Sood).

Unable to find out the reason behind Devi's split personality syndrome, Krishna is in shock. After a couple of hilarious encounters it gets clear that Devi is possessed by Ruby - a struggling model/actress who uses to dwell in that apartment where Krishna is currently staying. Ruby has committed suicide out of sheer frustration and depression for being unsuccessful in making her mark in the world of glamour.

Things take humorous turns when superstar Raj Khanna falls head over heels in love with Ruby.

The screenplay is simple and doesn't go overboard and loud. Has its share of buffoonery but its harmless fun with good punches and breezy flow.

Vijay's narration is simple and to the point targeted at the gallery. Prabhudeva as Krishna excels and he entertains throughout with his act and dance moves. Tamannaah is fantastic and gives the film the life it wants.

Sonu Sood is competent in his role. Murli Sharma entertains. Chintan Gandhi dialogues are good.

On the flipside, the Hindi dubbing is flawed at places and is visible. The climax seems to be hurried and the reason for Ruby leaving Devi is not entirely convincing. The movie offers nothing to the thinking hats.

Technicalities are decent and the title track is peppy.

All said and done TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA embarrasses the rom com genre with its ghostly spoofy hands that entertains and delivers the laughs. We have seen hilarious incidents surrounding ghost in Bollywod, WELCOME BACK graveyard episode still brings the laughs. TUTAK TUTAK TUTIYA is a rare comedy on ghost; hope we get such ghost laughter's more in future.
